A little sewing and some re-dos



If you are a quilter, sewer or crafter, you know how easy it is to "collect" fabric!  I have trouble finding a place for all the fabric in my little room.  And  besides "my" purchases, I have people who give me fabric.  It's a nice gesture but sometimes, it's not what I would use for quilts or sewing projects.  God forbid I say 'no', right?  lol

 

Such is the case with this bright yellow fabric that I covered my ironing board with.  My friend Anna found about a 3 yard bundle at a thrift store for $1.98 and the price was too good to pass up.  She thought I could use it for something.  :o)  The weave was not too good, reminded me of a feedsack.  I have a good ironing board cover I got at Road to CA last year but it's too slippery and our clothes won't stay on the board.  Very frustrating.  So, I decided to use some of this 'free' fabric for a cover.  It's a little on the bright side but it's cute and it was free and it took me under an hour to do it.  It was an easy project and since I'm trying to ease back into sitting and sewing, it was perfect.









 

 

And last weekend my hubby went to a car show and he brought a bag full of freebies.  One was this lanyard for your keys.  I have been wanting something to hook my house key on when I go for my walks but don't have a pocket.  I cut the old ribbon off and used the parts for a cute red polka dot ribbon.  Ahhh, much better!  Now I can take my walks in style.  :o)

 

 

 

And just to share some fun and cuteness, have you seen these adorable little  Fisher Price Super Heroes toys?  My daughter's friend has a little one and she found them while cruising the toy aisle one day.  I died when I saw them and knew I had to have some but each time I went to Target, they were out of stock.  My sister (who loves cuteness too) had to have them also and found them on Amazon.  When I showed her that I found them at Target, she said "she might even let her grandkids play with them".  Of course, neither of us has grandkids.  Maybe by the time we do, we'll be so happy, we'll give those little gems anything they want!!!  lol

 

It takes water???



This is the rose bush my friend gave me as a memorial when my mom passed away two years ago this month.  Boy, talk about pressure, trying to keep it alive with my two brown thumbs.  It was looking pretty bad about a month ago but with me having time off from my surgery, I had been better about watering it regularly.  Who knew that's all it takes?  Water!!  lol

I shared the name of this rose before but in case you missed that post the last time (probably two years ago), it's called Angel Face.  It produces the prettiest and most fragrant flowers.

And to keep my post pink and flowery :o), here is a card I made at a workshop at my friend Neena's house a week or so ago.  I never think to buy flower stamp sets and Neena always does.  I love the way it came out.  The roses are double stamped to give the watercolor look.  We used the argyle embossing folder for the bottom half of the card. 



Hope to be stopping by a little more often now that I am up and about like normal (almost) now.

Crafting in little bits....

I am limited to the amount of time I can sit at a time so when my daughter had her Stampin' Up! workshop at my house last Sunday, I had to take some breaks here and there but at least I was able to play and enjoy the company of friends.

We made several projects with the Big Shot.  One was this cute little framed project for a little "pretty" you could put just about anywhere.  We used decorative paper for the background, a piece of ribbon, a framelet to cut out the shape of the staying and a stamp to stamp it.  Oh, and a little dimensional flower at the bottom corner.

This "blurry" shot is of the one I did.  I liked the little tea pot.  It's still sitting on the table because nothing in my house is pink so I can't figure out where to put it.  LOL  (And in case you're wondering, nothing in my house is dark blue either!)

 

Stephanie tried to find thin flashing so we could make these garden plant sticks but the only thing she could find at the hardware store was too thick to run through the big shot.  So.....these are aluminum soda cans cut open as you can see by the picture on the far left.  Cherry Coke!  lol  Great recycling idea though, right?

This one is cute too because you can personalize it with the name of a plant, a person's name for a gift, etc.  Awfully cute to put out in the garden though!

We used embossing folders to make the designs on the cut out.  A little bling and it might even keep birdies from eating your seeds!  :o)

I did get a little sewing done (very little).  Hopefully, my road to recovery is about completed.  I go to the doctor today.  We'll see what he has to say.

Full Bloom

Well, the California weather is warming up, at least here in Fullerton. I walked earlier this morning to try and beat the heat but it was already 81 and without breakfast or coffee, I didn't want to push it so I only went 3/4 of a mile.

Just to get a little more outside time, I went in the backyard and cut a few flowers for my little tv tray by the recliner. The stephanotis is blooming so pretty right now and even though my sis trimmed my rose shrubs back pretty good, I was able to get a few blooms for a little vase.

It's the little things, right? :-)

Post Surgery Check-in

Hi friends. I know I've seen some of you on fb so you know I'm alive but for those of you who don't fb, here I am!!

Today marks three weeks from my surgery date. I'm doing really well, walking 1-3 miles per day. Walk, walk, walk.....that is what is on my doctor's orders. It actually feels so good to walk, and the weather here has been gorgeous so it's easy to get out at least twice a day. I still can't sit for longer than about 30 minutes, so reading is limited and crafting is nonexistent. :-(

This little steering wheel looking thing is a bone generator.  I have to strap it once a day for 30 minutes.  I do this at home and not while I'm walking otherwise I might have little boys chasing me down the street trying to steer the old lady right and left!!!  lol

When I have completed my 30 minutes successfully, I get to see this little happy face.  Now doesn't that just make life worth while?

Saturday morning when I was out walking, there were several yard sales. I was only going to walk around one block because I woke up a little sore.  Somehow my injury disappeared when I saw these three chairs!!!  I hurried home and told my hubby, "Get the Suburban! Somebody has the cutest chairs at a sale!".  He is such a good guy, he didn't even question me. (Years of marriage, I guess he knows me!).

The photo above is when the chairs are folded up, which makes it oh, so convenient to store them when not in use.  And below is what they look like when opened up.  They remind me of ice cream parlor chairs.  There's a little rust so I guess I should spray them with a coat of rustoleum but I kind of like the shabby look.  And then the cherry lover in my sees them red!  I will let them sit while I recuperate and decide on a paint color later. 

Well, I just wanted to check-in and say hello, I'm doing fine and hope you are too.  Guess I better get my morning walk in cuz here comes the sun!

Recuperating!

Hi friends! Just popping in to say hello and to let you know my back surgery went wonderfully! I had surgery Tuesday, got up and walked on Wednesday and was on my way home on Friday. :-)

I am walking around the block approximately 3-5 times a day. Walking feels the best, sitting is the hardest. I'm getting along pretty good.

The photo is from breakfast a few days ago. My childhood friend, Nora has been here the last few days cleaning and cooking some meals. It sure makes the healing go faster when you don't have to worry about dust bunnies!!

Plucked a few nectarines off our tree we planted last year, about September I think. Oh, they were delicious!!!

Aches, Pains and Stampin' Up! Sunday

Where do I start?  Guess I'll start by saying I'm going in to have back surgery tomorrow.  That will probably mean no crafty posts for a while.  Since I can post to blogger from my iphone though, when I'm feeling better, maybe even from the hospital (bored stiff), I'll pop in and let you know I'm fine.  If you don't hear from me, just know I'm probably heavily medicated and in a happy place.  lol

And to add insult to injury (pun intended), I pulled a muscle in my leg on Friday night.  I couldn't even walk and thought I ripped a tendon but was assured if I had, I wouldn't even be able to walk.  So, I missed the craft show with the girls on Saturday but sent my make-up bags for them to sell.  None of the vendors did very well but it was the first time the event added vendors and no one came prepared to shop.  No worries for us because it can just sit as stock until the next event.  Anyway, I iced my leg off and on all day Saturday and was 70% better on Sunday.  I was even able to climb the stairs at work today.  Yay!  And YES, I'm at work today even though I should be at home preparing for surgery!

Yesterday was my daughter Stephanie's Stampin' Up! Big Shot class.  We made four projects.  We decorated this jar with rosettes made with the Stampin' Up! Designer Rosette maker die.  You can make them without the die by scoring the paper but boy, this was much easier!!

The other three projects were a little memory book, a treat box and a flower clip.

This is the memory book sample.  We used the argyle embossing folder (gray background) and a Hostess stamp set called A Little Ocassion.  There are so many cute little designs and borders on it.  VERY cute set!

This is my book I made.  Stephanie ran out of gray paper so I got a pinky orange.  I don't remember the name of the color it it worked out fine.  Of course, I used the scissors from the same stamp set.  I just need to find some pictures of craftying pictures to tuck inside.  They'll have to be small pictures as the pages in this little book measure about 3x3".

Here is the inside of the book.  It only uses one 12x12" sheet of designer series paper.  We embellished the pages with punched shapes.  Real cute idea.

This is the sample candy box Stephanie did.  We the same Hostess stamp set, the Candy Wrapper die, the argyle embossing folder and some punches.  This would be an adorable baby shower favor.

This is the one I made.  Would be perfect for a baby's first birthday.
