<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was last weeks block in the <a href="http://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/grandmas-kitchen/" target="_blank">Pat Sloan free weekly pattern, Grandma's Kitchen</a>. This is #10 and there were a lot of different layouts you could do. It is called Recipe Box so I made it a box. Genius, huh? :) </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is #11 and this one is called Peppermint Swirls. I used some pastels to go with the watermelon red so it would matchy match the rest of the blocks. Reminds me more of Starburst than peppermint candies but it works. Oh, and I was able to finally use some of my vintage buttons in a project. I might take the buttons off if it makes sandwiching the quilt easier. We'll see when we get there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I bought this Olfa circle cutter years ago when I used to do swaps. I used it for a bulls eye swap. I can't believe how many times I have used it since then. For crafts, costumes and blocks like this. Gotta love those gadgets!! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxAz0qXO58V02QXk_iF1FqAMB78cgl3H-R17eo-ld_iECcvY6lP3jUoFkHK_mzefx18QKiJzZsWEaZNHds68RIrCXEPpd1L7qHxvNh4xIZujDKsYiPQ9CGEiiztwopFEtNnMV1julYj3Rp/s1600/20170906_172218.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxAz0qXO58V02QXk_iF1FqAMB78cgl3H-R17eo-ld_iECcvY6lP3jUoFkHK_mzefx18QKiJzZsWEaZNHds68RIrCXEPpd1L7qHxvNh4xIZujDKsYiPQ9CGEiiztwopFEtNnMV1julYj3Rp/s320/20170906_172218.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I started Design Boards a few weeks ago but had to put it aside for a while. Got distracted with trailer cushions, laundry room curtains, etc. :) Anyway, got them finished tonight. Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet came up with the idea. For a quilter, they are very handy. You lay your fabric pieces on them in the right order and carry them to the machine. Lori says in her video if you don't have to sew them together right then, it's even great to set by your machine because you can sew the blocks, ready to go, when you have some time. Genius! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A long, long, LONG time ago, I saved a tutorial for making Designer Boards. They make it easier to lay out your block pieces and carry them to the sewing machine. I usually use my 12 1/2" ruler but Pat Sloan has been using them with her blocks and it made me want to finally make them. The tutorial is by Lori Holt, Bee in My Bonnet and you can find it <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2011/07/mini-design-board-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Although, page two of the tutorial doesn't show the pictures so if you can figure it out, you're good to go. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It took a little more binding than I thought for the bigger ones. About 1 1/2 strips of fabric so I think I'll just make a big long piece like making binding and go from there.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As of right now, hubby and I are only babysitting our granddaughter two days a week. This is leaving us lots of free time. Most of that time lately though has had us gone, gone, gone. But, those trips have mostly been on the weekends so I'm still getting in my sewing room. Yay for small miracles. I never knew retirement could be so (or sew) busy!</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I finished block #5 of <a href="http://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/grandmas-kitchen/" target="_blank">Pat Sloan's Grandma's Kitchen Sew Along</a> last Thursday but we went out of town for my little grandsons 2nd birthday so posting had to wait. And holy moly, directions for a new block will be released tomorrow already! Every Tuesday night it feels a little bit like Christmas. I can't wait for the next day.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I would've preferred my yellow floral to be in the forefront of my block but I still like it. Gotta have some polka dots in there somewhere. :) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lord knows </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I didn't need to, but I did a little retail therapy</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">!! I blame Pat Sloan for it. :D She shared on her facebook page that this little magnet set was only 39 cents at Fat Quarter Shop. Well, I just "had" to add a few things to my cart to make the shipping worthwhile. :D They had this adorable ballerina fabric and little scissor sheaths. I have a few pair of smaller Gingher scissors that have lost their little covers so having a few extras won't hurt and how cute are they! I think they're a Fat Quarter Shop exclusive.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Mo12Nee6y26_Wy8_rhjm4iJcs3ZgexoiymlrFtq4uU9SLpDTVErRQHTJdq-AGk6BT849enx2Av-N4fI9wHTGuYA_CzfejNU6XZtRXIGbt46iMMAZJPW3tOem_ukf9sGMl6y1REiHBWNy/s1600/20170804_010759.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1038" data-original-width="1600" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Mo12Nee6y26_Wy8_rhjm4iJcs3ZgexoiymlrFtq4uU9SLpDTVErRQHTJdq-AGk6BT849enx2Av-N4fI9wHTGuYA_CzfejNU6XZtRXIGbt46iMMAZJPW3tOem_ukf9sGMl6y1REiHBWNy/s320/20170804_010759.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I looked on Pinterest for info on DIY big ironing board topper and found a few that were helpful for making my own. Buying one was quite expensive. My ironing board was a discard from my <span style="background-color: white;">sister-in-law</span> and I like to salvage things so I found some rubber end caps for the feet because it didn't have any (fluorescent yellow was all I could find!) and ta-da a functioning ironing board.</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I used a combination of <a href="https://quiltingjetgirl.com/2016/11/02/how-to-modify-your-ironing-board-into-a-rectangular-quilters-ironing-board/" target="_blank">this post</a> and <a href="https://wildonionstudio.wordpress.com/2008/08/26/how-to-make-an-ironing-board-topper/" target="_blank">this one</a> to make my big board. I didn't round the corners. I didn't think it was necessary. We'll see if that decision comes back to bite me when I jam my sides time after time. So far, so good though. I also didn't put slats underneath to hold the big board in place. </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> They do that so you can take it off but I decided to keep mine on all the time. It might make it hard to iron a blouse now and then but I'll figure it out. My ironing board has holes in the body of it so I screwed the big board to it. My friend was throwing away this brand new cutting table/ironing board cover so I took it for this project. I've already used it a dozen times and I love having the big surface to iron on.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And....I finished this quilt top. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have been teaching some friends how to quilt. Their first project was a Single Irish Chain and this Rail Fence will be their next quilt so I wanted to make a sample. I used a jelly roll I've had for years from French General. I love the way it turned out. I already pieced the back and cut the batting but quilting will need to wait til the current quilt project gets finished. It's been sitting a L O N G time so this might be just what I need to get 'er done. :D</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been keeping up with my <a href="http://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/grandmas-kitchen/" target="_blank">Pat Sloan Grandma's Kitchen blocks</a>. Got #4 done and though this is my least favorite, I'm going to leave it until the project is further along to see if it will blend in or if I want to change it. I think the tone on tone fabrics weren't the best for this block design. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I really like t</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">he blocks of the people who only used two colors.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm still chugging along on <a href="http://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/grandmas-kitchen/" target="_blank">Pat Sloan's Grandma's Kitchen Sew Along</a>. Of course, it's only been three weeks. lol I usually do pretty good on starting things and then something in my life happens and it all gets pushed on the back burner. But this is only one block a week and so far life has been calmer. It's much easier to keep up then with the Bonnie Hunter mysteries. For me anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This block is called Key Holder. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I had a long dry spell without going to a quilt shop so a while back I decided to take two quilts to be longarm quilted. I had made some money selling some things on craigslist so I figured, what the heck. I wanted to check some UFOs off my list and this should help. </span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I went to the <a href="http://www.orangequiltbee.com/index.htm" target="_blank">Orange Quilt Bee</a> and saw a class for a mini sampler out of Civil War Repro fabrics and the blocks can be anywhere from 3-6 inches. I haven't taken a class in a long time so I signed up. It was fun and I had a good time, met some nice ladies and the teacher was great. The first thing she had me do was make two nine patches to work on accuracy. I needed to slow down a bit and with the help from the teacher, my blocks measured exactly 3 1/2".</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After I set up at the class, I found out it wasn't actually for the entire sampler. *disappointment* But it's not a total loss. I picked a block off the sampler and we drew it up. I used the Eleanor Burns method and ruler to make the flying geese.</span></div>

I laughed that this little itty bitty block and my two little nine patches took almost three hours. Learning takes time. But look at those points!! And this block measured a perfect 3 1/2" too. :)<br />

I'm enjoying being back in my sewing room. I got to move into our 400 sq. ft. room addition a few months ago and it's been a long process. I am a clutter gal by nature and have lived in this house for over 33 years. It means there have been a lot of things that got put in boxes that don't necessarily have a place to go now. It means sorting and purging. And because I don't always want to do it (cuz I'd rather be playing with fabric!) there have been a few boxes stacked up waiting for me to sort them out. I have three left and decided this is the week to get through them! I did one today and have piles all over the cutting table. lol Tomorrow is another day!<br />

I think I would've liked the block a little better if I would've used the floral as the wider pieces and the plaid as the thinner ones but I like the fabric enough that I'm going to leave it. I think this will be a cheery one. :)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ever since grandbabies and Facebook, I kind of ditched my blog. But...I realized that my blog was a date book or journal of sorts. Dates I don't remember, when projects were completed, etc. So here I am...and I'm going to attempt to keep blogging, if only for me and no visitors. ;)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now if anyone has no business starting a project it's me! But this one called my name. <a href="http://www.patsloan.com/" target="_blank">Pat Sloan</a> is doing a "sew along" called <a href="http://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/grandmas-kitchen/" target="_blank">Grandma's Kitchen</a>. Sharing memories of sitting at Grandma's kitchen table and reminiscing. I thought about using 30's reproductions fabrics because it just screams for them but I don't have a wall big enough for a quilt so I decided to use something that could be a throw or bed topper.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Most of my fabrics are Holly Holderman. From the stash, just sitting and waiting for a project. They are all sitting in a little bin and I will use up what I can each month when there is a new clue.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I bought a new ruler when I saw Bonnie Hunter use it. I have so many rulers but this one is really awesome. Not only can you cut off the corners <i>and dog ears, </i>it's got great lines for checking your piecing sizes. Love it! It's called Simple Folded Corners by <a href="http://antlerquiltdesign.com/" target="_blank">Doug Leko</a>. I bought it directly from his site.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Clue #2 is almost done. I will have quite a collection of them once I'm done with this quilt project.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Clue #3....I only did a few. Enough to see what my block would look like. I spent the last few days putting my Christmas stuff away. I had planned on getting back to my sewing room by tomorrow but my two daughters want to go to Disneyland. They're making the most of their annual passes and with that cutie-patootie grandbaby, I have to go too. :o) They have a friend that can get me in since I don't have a pass so off we go. I guess sewing will wait. </span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">So many people on Bonnie's facebook group are sharing their finished quilts. There are some real beauties!! I feel like the tone on tone fabrics are really looking good with this pattern. My busy fabrics are growing on me. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is my partial quilt block. No corner units or center block. I'm not sure, with how busy it is already, if I want to use a 4 patch block in the center so...</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And the way Bonnie's pattern says, using a 4 patch and turquoise corners. This seemed too much and someone suggested trying on fabric in the corners to add a constant. I think I will give it a try when I have more blocks done.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Everything is SO beautiful at Disneyland at Christmas time. I have been lucky and have gotten to go the last few years. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I didn't think I'd get any holiday baking done this year with my little "distraction" but my daughter (and Emily) went to her in-laws for a week before Christmas. That freed me up to do some baking</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">. There is something about a toddler grabbing your pant legs and "oohing" to be picked up while you're trying to work in the kitchen. I can't say no and I know this time will be short lived so I cave. Heck, this time next year, she'll be wanting to play with the dough so I guess I'll have a helper from here on out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I bought a book from Current when my kids were little about some "gingerbears" who are like the shoemakers elves and help a couple prepare for Christmas by baking for the wife, putting a toy together for the husband, doing the baking and the dishes, etc. I love that story (probably because I WISH I had gingerbears help me at Christmas!!) and I like to cut my gingerbread into little bears. :o)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is our tree this year. I was a little worried about how dry our tree was last year so this year we bought a live tree from a tree lot where they cut it down after you chose it. Five days after Christmas and it still feels good and it's still drinking water, thank goodness. It was hard to switch from a Noble Fir to this Douglas but once all the decorations were on it, it looked good and to not be all dried up...totally worth it!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, Saturday, hubby and I went to Ulos, one of the many shopping areas here in Ankara. We somehow communicated to a store clerk that we needed a new adapter (mostly by pointing to the broken adapter). Luckily, the man spoke just enough English to tell us, "Light...signal...right...elektrik." Okay, got it. Off we went, got the adapter, walked around some, I got prices on some inexpensive machines should the adapter still not work and I found a fabric store that carried some cottons! I bought a few gingham-type checks and got a few colors as fill ins for a few projects I had. ;) And then home. I tried the new adapter with my Janome Jem and still nothing. I get power and then an error display message so it must need some work or it's just not taking the 220v power. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been cutting "kits" and pinning project pieces together so I was staying busy during the day. I'm not sure but I must have had the most pitiful look ever on my face because on Sunday night, hubby told me I should go back to Ulos on Monday and get myself a new sewing machine. Saturday they had a Singer for around $200 US dollars. I really didn't want a Singer but hey, I didn't want to complain. I'm unemployed now, you know. lol</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, on Monday, I got out the English/Turkish dictionary and wrote down a few phrases like "left" and "right" for the taxi ride and "how much". :) Before I was ready to leave, I called one of the wives that I've become friends with, Debbie. I told her my plan and she eagerly said she would go with me. I almost climbed through the phone line to kiss her!! lol I would've gone alone but she's been here for three years and knows a little Turkish, how to get to Ulos and is just knowledgeable about things here. Talk about relief!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">This photo is behind the main street. The shops go for blocks but the "main street" is where the sewing machine stores are. They have Pfaff, Juki, Singer, Janome....just about anything you would want. A lot of friends and family have asked if I have to wear a scarf or keep my head covered. There are many Muslims here, from the full black dress with just their eyes showing to ladies who wear the trench coat and scarf to just a head scarf. I know there are names for all of those garments but I don't know them. If I take time to look it up, I'll never get my post done! lol</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf7HayW_Inak2niTCgzcVx8Yj-KS4DMr9pC8iMWWgKrtjzx7IzfYwvzOuk1JqTMnZV8GEp8hdrIE27rVzxieo-GcdypLuzn50t6lNAGLsBkQmeEtrbac7naKRLT3y-ThWpgSF5gdP-7r1K/s1600/P5310014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf7HayW_Inak2niTCgzcVx8Yj-KS4DMr9pC8iMWWgKrtjzx7IzfYwvzOuk1JqTMnZV8GEp8hdrIE27rVzxieo-GcdypLuzn50t6lNAGLsBkQmeEtrbac7naKRLT3y-ThWpgSF5gdP-7r1K/s1600/P5310014.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, below is the machine I got. It's not a Singer and it wasn't $200. lol I'm telling you, it's a wonder Richard even lets me come to visit him! :oD This week I blew up the iron!!! lol Anyway, this hobby machine was just over $400 US dollars so it's not horribly priced and I'm hoping when I come back in September, toward the end of that visit, I'll be able to sell it on the expat site since it's 220v and I won't be able to use it at home. So far, she's been doing a great little job. Since I had some of my "kits" ready to go, I was able to start sewing strips together for a Yellow Brick Road quilt. She's nice and quiet and would've been a nice extra machine if she wasn't 220v.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I was only in Turkey for a few days before we went on a little vacation. Hubby took a week off of work and we went to Germany. I had no idea how close Austria, Italy and Switzerland were to Germany. I believe I was gazing out the window during </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">high school Geography! I really need to study a map!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, hubby picked this fabulous hotel in Munich. The people who own it are very nice. The staff was all fluent in English which made asking "tourist" questions a lot easier. We stayed here for two days.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We arrived at the hotel at about 5:30, or maybe later. It's all a blur. lol The staff told us we were about 3 or 4 blocks away from this palace. The grounds/garden was open but the palace was closed. He let me use this book so I could read about it. I'm glad we were so close to it because it was worth the walk!</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first thing we came to was an opening and we could see this beautiful garden. We walked in and strolled at first and then picked up our pace as the sun was going down and we wanted to see as much as we could.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There were several buildings on the property which in the book said were "guest" cottages. (Bigger than my house times 3!) Then we came to an opening and saw the palace. Oh my. To think this is a working palace. So beautiful.</span></div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Look at me trying to be a good little blogger and post some updates!! :o)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I haven't figured out the sewing machine situation yet so in the meantime, I'm plugging along on prep work. Doing what I can to prepare for when I have a working machine here in Turkey. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've had this pattern and layer cake kit for...oh, about two years I guess. That must be my "simmer time" because that seems to be my average of projects I brought with me. I guess I had to bond with my fabrics and kits first....like raising a family. Hold 'em tight and then let them go. hehe</span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, no sewing but there is quite a bit of prep work for this project, Darci's Dress Up. The dresses need to be fused onto squares of background fabric. I'm using Steam a Seam 2 I'm hoping it doesn't make them to stiff but I'm guessing this will be a wall hanging and hopefully, it will be fine. (Sorry for the poor quality photos. My camera's on the charger.)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYdJ5L15A6DiWUnNs1I5-ItTdRCtWm3bbgNxHvd8n0OH8X_cUkzJZKQkG89HcrbBABvL0QUvNfjtOQgyBxwM9TVBlGHj9Id3wrSIG70Ng9YiNaLhouBduQIiVB10IuQ96dQzgVB5kf9BW2/s640/blogger-image--1063989996.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span></a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The need to be fused, attached by blanket stitch, blind stitch or whatever your choice is. I'm probably going to blind stitch them on. There are collars, sleeves and pockets. You can also add embellishments like lace, rickrack, buttons. I brought a few things but not a lot. We'll see how far this project goes.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYdJ5L15A6DiWUnNs1I5-ItTdRCtWm3bbgNxHvd8n0OH8X_cUkzJZKQkG89HcrbBABvL0QUvNfjtOQgyBxwM9TVBlGHj9Id3wrSIG70Ng9YiNaLhouBduQIiVB10IuQ96dQzgVB5kf9BW2/s1600/blogger-image--1063989996.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="399" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYdJ5L15A6DiWUnNs1I5-ItTdRCtWm3bbgNxHvd8n0OH8X_cUkzJZKQkG89HcrbBABvL0QUvNfjtOQgyBxwM9TVBlGHj9Id3wrSIG70Ng9YiNaLhouBduQIiVB10IuQ96dQzgVB5kf9BW2/s400/blogger-image--1063989996.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I brought a charm pack of 30's but not big pieces. I'm not thrilled with all of the fabrics I have to use but I'm going to go for it. The background blocks and dresses are okay but once I pulled all that I liked, there wasn't much left for the little "pinwheel" border. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I'm guessing it'll take me some time to get the dresses done so who knows, I might be home by then. lol </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">We'll be going to Munich in a few days and will be gone for a week. Thus the Part 1, question marks. Who knows what I'll get done while I'm here. :o)</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have my little sewing space all set up in the living room of my hubby's apartment. We moved me out of the back bedroom so I could have access to the internet to use the wifi for music on my tablet or to watch tv while sewing if I wanted to. Um....since I blew up the tv in the back room last time I was here. lol</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I brought a suitcase full of things to sew since I'll have quite a bit of time to myself while the hubby is at work. When we're not traveling, I'll be playing with fabric. Things I bought quite a while ago and didn't have time because of work or because of someone named Emily. :)</span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first thing I thought I would try is this little kit that I bought probably two years ago on a quilt run. I bought it at a favorite little shop called Stars and Scraps in Corona. I always find something cute in that store!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I got about almost to the last step of adding the bottom binding and my machine went kapooey. The machine quit working, gave me a beep and message on the screen that I'm sure has something to do with the power difference between our 110 and Turkey's 220 power. Grrrr. And this is with the surge protector I'm using. I was "very" persistent and turned the hand wheel to finish the binding. This might be my only finish while I'm here. :(</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, off to see what I can cut up and get things ready for sewing....whenever that happens. When I thought I blew this machine up on my last visit, hubby took it to have it fixed. Maybe he'll remember where he took it and we can take it back in. Either that or maybe I can find a little used machine in one of the shops here. There are about three machine stores we've seen in sopping area, Janome, Pfaff and Singer. I ought to be able to find something, right? lol</span></div>

Now onto post #501. :o)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">My husband asked me if I could make a baby quilt for a lady that works with him in Turkey. I was able to get enough fabric from my stash to make the quilt but ran into a little problem when it came to the binding....arghhh!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipDo0MRxZia7ekfXFBKQQ3V9SiSk9koZNeg5ZEpY_hK2CpefYIL_AjLlL1nXcGUJreyYmk47fUAncBX-FjR6mY7OQCtYxeFqgu7bvpkljgyBZvCeSiN24ZLpEBwa904-LLwkGvxpSTH7CQ/s400/blogger-image-1458194580.jpg" width="299" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I wish I would've intentionally made the binding scrappy but since I thought I had enough and didn't think I would be short, I had to get very creative. Ahhh, hindsight!! I was able to piece scraps together and make it work but it wouldn't win any prizes. It is a quilt to be used and loved and 'hopefully', the recipient's mommy won't see the flaws in the binding.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">While I was quilting this quilt, my little granddaughter Emily needed a little babysitting while her mommy took a shower. These pictures are from about a month ago and she has since mastered sitting up and doesn't need this little seat anymore but with that being said, she is "grabbing" everything in sight. I doubt she'll be sitting on my sewing table from now on. Well, until she wants to sew something. I'm guessing that will be at least a few years from now. :o)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMu_EEqBzo8CGqH1JdCPoT4pBvio473s0u6dx20exlio4pe0CLDTcet8MF2DjPUFLA3Opds4FPLMfjmo5kC-o2JSASUsKNsKesdicdU3Vdph0IjxCl0tdY1t012DPyCZEa_tWvf3lm2o0s/s400/blogger-image--1334581564.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Do you see the collection on the shelf? She already stares at everything in this room and my paper crafting room. She can't focus. I think I give her eye-overload or something. lol</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was the finished quilt...minus the slobber. lol The quilt is from a charm book my friend bought at Road to CA. It's a great quilt for charms but I used the same focus fabric in the center blocks and the border because I had enough</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">. I had already used this fabric before so it was nice to try and use it up and make a little room (very little) for other fabric.</span></div>

FABRIC GIVEAWAY!!! Longest No-Blog-Post-EVER!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I don't know where the time has gone or why I haven't posted on my bloggy. A quilty/bloggy friend, <a href="http://afwife85.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Michelle</a>, mentioned she was at 499 back in February and already had her giveaway way back when!! Sigh...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I wanted to do something for my 500th post and that must have stumped me because I never did a giveaway...until now. I have been very busy with family health issues and when that got better, I hit the ground running with crafting. Lucky for you, I had to do some shopping. :o) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Leave a comment with your name (and an email address if you don't have a blog) and I will draw a name on Thursday, May 1st. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope you like the fabrics I chose. The line is Moda and wouldn't you know, the name was cut off of the selvedge. From doing on online search, I believe the first line is Paisley by Bonnie and Camille and the second two are Scrumptious, same designer. They really are "scrumptious"! lol They are half yard cuts. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">This card was made using Circle Thinlits, various punches and Another Great Year stamp set. Love the color combination and paper designs.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are the two cards I made. We used a paper stack called Fresh Prints. You get 48 sheets in the pack of 4x6" so it's great for making cards.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was the second card. We used stamp sets and a punch from Sale-a-Bration. Stamp sets, Banner Blast and See Ya Later and the punch is called Banner.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This last card was made using the cloud embossing folder for the background, Sweet Sorbet designer series paper and Summer Sun cardstock. The stamp set is the same See Ya Later used above.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So many of us are trying to start the year out by finishing some UFO's. This is my goal too. I made a list of 15 that I will work on from now til July. My first one is from a swap, Delectable Mountains, a Bonnie Hunter pattern. We made blocks out of 30's. Easy enough. I got stumped because I didn't know how to quilt it. Well, yesterday I got it sandwiched. I have decided (thanks to my daughter Stephanie) to stitch in the ditch straight lines following the seams. Tonight I was too pooped from work but hope to make some headway this week in the evenings after work.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My in-between-quilting-project will be my Celtic Solstice blocks. I'm only on clue #2, the chevrons. I am sitting tonight and marking the diagonal squares. Mondays seem to hit me hard nowadays. lol</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I finished clue #1 of Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice mystery. (You can click on the little green bear on the right to go to her website.) I had done the blue and orange tri rec blocks after Christmas and just last night finished the blue and white ones. 92 and 96! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirubTKz9_r7TEREbTdkONlJkKN4UXYZ-WwOEp-a0GhDXqF9NgGXcaIh37-_u3FXn-qTCZJ16dHHCZAUVC8whPtaRZ1EmSkDZqqURM09tzUjFcBIt4AxmWgKU7L2fIrF219w94NMQzbZEyv/s640/blogger-image-2031865881.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirubTKz9_r7TEREbTdkONlJkKN4UXYZ-WwOEp-a0GhDXqF9NgGXcaIh37-_u3FXn-qTCZJ16dHHCZAUVC8whPtaRZ1EmSkDZqqURM09tzUjFcBIt4AxmWgKU7L2fIrF219w94NMQzbZEyv/s400/blogger-image-2031865881.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have always loved the 54-40 block and am so excited the tri recs ruler makes it so easy. This was a great purchase and I'm sure I'll use it again.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was using some scrap triangles as leaders and enders. These were left over from my Grandbaby <a href="http://busyliz.blogspot.com/2013/08/almost-all-done.html" target="_blank">Emily's quilt</a>. I couldn't bear to through the cute little scrap triangles away. Guess I'll have to do one more batch of triangles as I am one block short.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I doubt I will go out and celebrate tonight but you never know what kind of invitations the day will bring. lol Me and my friend Debbie usually spend New Year's Eve with our hubbies playing games and going to Downtown Fullerton where they close off the streets and have a fireworks display at midnight. This year with Richard in Turkey, I think I'll just stay home and sew. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is my big fireworks display....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHOclSsFYNBvJWIQ4Gq7_A_bk032YdaqVz-1bBW58dqk2EClORQ8aVmzvS-FJmioK99r-K9bJqOrnKDBm4haoQheRMXNjuY1KE9IlPzbeQRJo-PjcgzjTuJKAI00PskL6uVGtQvKC2KjpC/s1600/fireworks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHOclSsFYNBvJWIQ4Gq7_A_bk032YdaqVz-1bBW58dqk2EClORQ8aVmzvS-FJmioK99r-K9bJqOrnKDBm4haoQheRMXNjuY1KE9IlPzbeQRJo-PjcgzjTuJKAI00PskL6uVGtQvKC2KjpC/s320/fireworks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will say goodbye to 2013 with a thankful heart. Even though my hubby left to go to another country to work, we have traveled to beautiful places I never even "thought" I would want to see much less have a chance to get there. I have had a beautiful granddaughter and the bonus is she lives right here in my house so I can get my kisses and hug-fix any time I want. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">2014 will be exciting. I will get to quit my job. If I can stand to be away from little Emily for very long, I will go see Richard a few times this year and we will do have more traveling, mostly on the company's dime. (Such a perk)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">God Bless each and every one of you. May you have a safe and Happy New Year and "prosperous" 2014....so we can buy more fabric and craft stuff. lol</span></div>
