Cutie Carrots

I found this adorable printable today for little carrots from theredthreadblog.com. I had candy and didn't know how I would pack it up this Easter. This was the perfect solution. I did have to get green tissue paper but I was out shopping anyway. :-)

Happy Easter to you all!

Little Cheater!

Finally finished this little cheater panel.  I was trying to hold out for my new sewing table insert but the baby won't wait until that happens so I figured I better get on it.  Besides I have another quick baby quilt to do ASAP!

I'm on the fence about adding a simple quilt design to the border.  It's only 4" and doesn't really need it but I don't know.  It might hold up better to lots of washings if it's quilted somehow.  I'll look at it tonight and decide.

I did a serpentine stitch in the mock sashing.

The blocks were poofy so the sashing quilting wasn't enough.  I added a grid stitch over the blocks.  Because it's a printed panel and not perfectly printed, it's not perfect but I can live with that.

This is a close up of the cute fabric that was included with the kit for the borders and binding.  Love the dots and stripes!

The kit was a new purchase so obviously I didn't use up any fabric for it but I did piece the back from stash fabric.  For the kit, you just cut off one strip off the side of the panel.  That strip makes the back the perfect width if pieced down the middle.

Just gotta get that label done!

Springtime and chocolate!

I have been trying to be better about walking consistently.  Some days I am more motivated than others.  Sigh...  But yesterday, a house in the neighborhood had these gorgeous ranunculas planted in the front walkway.  Oh my, they were so bright and beautiful, they looked like tissue paper.

And in my backyard, our fruit tree has got blooms galore on it.  I would call it a plum tree or nectarine tree but I can't remember what I planted.  LOL  I guess we'll know soon enough when the flowers turn into fruit.  :o)

Saturday two of my daughters did a 5k walk for the Ronald McDonald House charity.  This was at about 5:30 in the morning so we aren't lookin' too pretty but at the end of the walk you got a cup of chocolate milk and goodies so that's why we're smiling.  lol  From L-R, Ashley, Missy (Ashley's MIL), Stephanie and me.

Mmmmm.  There was a rice krispy treat, a cookie, some pretzels, a banana and a marshmallow.  And the chocolate was sooo delicious!

And how the heck did Easter arrive SO fast?!!!  Since it's this weekend and we'll have a small family gathering, I decided to put out some decorations but not too many.  It'll be here and gone before you know it.

New Sewing Table

I'm so excited!!  With my tax refund, aka, "the savings account Uncle Sam keeps for me cuz I don't know how to save money", I went and (finally) bought a big girl sewing table.  This, of course, caused me to rearrange the sewing room to create the BIGGEST mess EVER!!!  I'm almost seeing light at the end of the tunnel and CAN'T WAIT until the clear insert comes so I can have a smooth surface to sew on.  Ohhhh....hurry up Mr. Postman!!!

Life is a Jungle!!!

:o)  I had to make a little "it's a jungle" joke about this crazy life I'm attempting to live and the project I started working on.  I have been trying to stay very busy since Richard left and have a lot of cleaning and sorting still to do but Sunday I had had enough.  I threw in the towel and said "I need some sewing therapy!!"

This little cheater quilt (only the top so far) is for my daughter's friend, Jenny.  She's the mom of that adorable little flower girl seen here at Ashley's wedding.  Jenny is pregnant with her third baby, a little boy, and because it's her third baby, there won't be a shower.  Whoever heard of such a thing?  lol  I didn't really know her when she had her first two babies but I like her.  She calls me Mam, like Ashley does so she's getting a little quilt for her bouncing baby boy.  This was a kit I bought from Road to CA.  Just the panel, border and binding fabrics so it wasn't too expensive.  You trim a row off the side and sew on borders.  Easy enough even for me at this time in my life.  My only complaint is the fabric was 'tweaked' at the right side.  It was really bad on the last row so thank goodness I chopped that one off!

That piece that got cut off was attached to the back fabric that had to be pieced anyway to make it big enough to work.  I got it on sale Sunday for $6.00/yard.  I wanted to put flannel on the back but the flannel that matched was $13.00/yard and I just couldn't do it.  Have you been buying fabric with these new prices?  Oh, it's killing me.  And convincing me to use what I have as often as possible.  Of course, this kit and the back are all new.  LOL

Here's a close up of the cute little monkey and polka dot border fabric.  The binding is a cute colorful stripe and I can't wait to get this pinned and quilted.

But...it's still hanging on the design wall. I have to get a closet organizer in my room so I can move my clothes over from the master bedroom to prepare for my "roomies" to move in in a couple of weeks.  This transition has been hard for so many reasons but the biggest one has been living in our house for 28 years!  SO.MUCH.STUFF!!!!
