Cherry quilt coming along

I "finally" got my cherry blocks all sewed together. I put them on point and used the same black pimatex fabric for the setting triangles. Since it was so long ago that I mentioned this project, the block is the Swapper's Star from Quilters Cache. The blocks are 9" finished. I lost some points on these since it was a swap and some blocks did not have the 1/4" seam allowance. With the light fabric against the black, that does show but I figured it would be fine since it's such a busy top.

Now for the borders. I tried this one but it didn't 'hit' me. There yellow print just blends in with the seed packet fabric.

Then I put a red polka dot against the quilt and the yellow gingham on the outside. It kind of works but the scale seems too small.

Then I tried the red with this green because I had quite a bit of it. Still wrong and even smaller in scale so no-go. If these were my only two choices, the yellow is better. So at this point, I emailed pictures to my sister, Isabel. I needed a second set of eyes. And of course, the genius said, "Try the green with that seed packet fabric."

So I did. And all was right with the world! LOL I love it.

I told her I never would've thought of this combination but the green matches the seed print perfectly and there is just enough contrast to see when one print stops and the other print starts. And I bought this seed packet fabric specifically for this project so it's nice that it worked out without having to make any other purchases. I'm hoping I have enough cherry fabrics left that I can sew them all together for the backing. I'll see how it goes.
I've got to pack tonight for a retreat I'm going to on Wednesday. I might take this one with me to get the borders and back ready for quilting.

I didn't get any emails....

I can only assume I didn't win any prizes in those giveaways I posted about a few days ago but I'll keep trying. This is why I don't buy lottery tickets. LOL

Hey, did you notice I haven't posted for a couple of days? I've been a busy lady. (I use the term "lady" loosly.) This is what I've been doing.........

My daughter's boyfriend Dave, turned 21 on Saturday. His family is here from Hawaii and we all went out to dinner. They're going to move from Hawaii so they're checking out different areas in CA. Here's the birthday boy with his mama Missy at the Lazy Dog Restaurant. She was happy as could be to be hugging her boy on his birthday.

I laid out my cherry blocks from a swap a few weeks ago. I made another block to give me enough for an on-point setting. I got part of one row sewed together and then started something else. I'll come back to this but I had a deadline....sort of.

I made this table runner as a favor for my friend Neena. She has a trip to Utah for her Stampin' Up convention and needed a gift for a secret sister. She was in a crunch (Neena's always in a crunch! lol) and asked me if I would make it for her in exchange for Stampin' Up stuff. I got it put together but she forgot to leave me the backing fabric. Things weren't working out the way she planned so she got a back up gift and I guess she's going to keep the runner. Now she'll get to quilt it! hehe I still get the goodies for sewing it together. Woohoo!

And this guy came into our office last week. He looks kind of familiar, don't you think? He came in for supplemental insurance to his medicare. Hey, especially Santa has to stay healthy!!! :o) He happened to have 8x10 glossy's in a folder he brought with him. He gave each one of us ladies a different pose.

I've been stitching up some scraps for a split nine patch swap. I'll keep chipping away at my cherry top. Lots of pinning on that one so I'll work on that between other projects until I get it together. I've got a few things to share with you tomorrow but I'm pooped tonight so I'll have to load pictures tomorrow.

First post for Thursday

I've got some catching up to do so I'm going to do two posts today. How 'bout that? LOL
First, I wanted to show you my tomatoes. Even though we practically killed the plant by watering it too much, it's still giving us fruit. It doesn't look very healthy though so we're thinking maybe we should just go buy another one and plant it next to this one, since we have so much season left. It'll probably be hot in CA until January!

I've been working on finishing up my little cherry blocks for a swap. This is the third set and I might try and make one more set before swapping them out. It just depends. I'm waiting to hear from one last girl. These is going to make a cute quilt!

I wanted to share a couple more pictures from the Quilt Run last Saturday. One of the shops we went to was Quilt in a Day. Do you know Eleanor Burns? Yeah, me either, but she has a quilt shop. :o) So many shops we went to were in industrial parks. Probably for the size of the building and the cheaper rent compared to a store front. I'm just guessing of course because I really don't know anything about quilt shops...except for the good stuff on the inside!! :o)
There were areas in a side room that had wallpaper and antiques like it was used in a shoot for one of her books. It was nice shop with a nice variety of fabrics.

As we headed back to Orange County, we stopped at A Time To Sew. This store is in a new location. Another industrial park so the shop was a nice size. They had a back room with samples so I snapped a few pictures to share with you. I thought this was a great setting for some of my bags of swap blocks....

I love the colors too. And I had to grab a shop of this quilt. I still have a bunch of this fabric that I bought to make a quilt my bed. I think it's called Cinnamon something....

I tried to do a star block using the Square in a Square technique but I'm a failure at that so I might just do something like this trusy ol' Log Cabin. I love it and even though that blue print is nice, I would find a different center square color.

That's it for this post. On to find what other pictures I was going to share with you. :o)
